Two female franchisees of domestic cleaning specialist Time For You explain why they invested in the business
Cleaning, Business & Professional Services
Ann Brebner runs the Northampton franchise of cleaning specialist Time For You. She was working as a police officer when she decided she needed a better work/life balance. Her job meant long working hours and Ann felt she would benefit from spending more time with her family and less time at work.
Sensible
After deciding she would like to be her own boss, Ann considered her options. A franchise seemed like a sensible idea, and she researched the opportunity offered by Time For You.
Ann says: “Time For You has a good business model that is easy to implement.” This was the reason she ended up investing in her own Time For You franchise.
Ann has been running her franchise, along with business partner Claire Elliot, for eight years. They currently have 290 regular clients, over 100 cleaners registered with their company and annual profits currently stand at £125,000. Ann has found Freddie Rayner, founder of Time For You, very supportive and says that everything has been “surprisingly easy”.
Ann is adamant she made the right decision when buying into the franchise and hasn’t looked back since. The best thing about the business for her is that, as a franchisee, she now has much more flexibility in her working life, and both Ann and her family are benefiting from her increased spare time.
It’s important you thoroughly research any franchise you are considering investing in. While many franchisees go on to make their businesses a success, they do so because the franchisor has tried and tested methods for them to follow. Speaking to both the franchisor and other franchisees can make you confident in your decision to become your own boss.
In 2010 Caroline Kirby was working in publishing when she saw an advert for Time For You. Although she hadn’t been considering buying a franchise or even changing career, it grabbed her attention and led her to visit the company’s website. After researching the business, Caroline spoke to Freddie Rayner and some of his franchisees.
Impressed
Caroline was impressed by the franchise’s tried and tested methods, liked the people already working for the business and was inspired by the success of the other franchisees. Without looking at any other franchises, she decided to buy a Time For You franchise in Tunbridge Wells.
Two years on and Caroline has more than 150 regular clients and business is still growing.
Having three children, Caroline benefits from the flexibility that owning a franchise can provide. She says: “The best thing about owning a Time For You franchise is the freedom it brings. I don’t know of another career that would allow you to earn so much money and still be able to do the school run every day, to never miss a school play or sports day and be able to spend time with your children during the school holidays.
“You do have to be self motivated though. Having a day off to go to school sports day means you may have to spend some time in the evening working, because things still need to be done. It’s a big responsibility, but if you’re prepared to put in the hard work you will see great results.”
Caroline says she would have no hesitation of recommending a Time For You franchise to others. “If you follow the steps set out for you, your business will be a success,” she says. “It’s a waste of time trying to reinvent the wheel - this franchise works, so stay focused and be prepared for a rewarding challenge.” With a Time For You franchise, you not only
benefit from a tried and tested business model, but you also have the full support, help and guidance that is necessary to be successful.
