In the 1980s Brig and Jo Sorber, as a way of earning some extra cash while at high school, started moving people in the Lansing, Michigan area using an old pickup truck. They had their mother, Mary Ellen Sheets, design a stick-men logo to put in the weekly community newspaper, which is still being used today. After the brothers left for college, Mary Ellen Sheets continued with their moving business, buying a truck for $350 and hiring a pair of movers.

Today the unique franchise, with over 215 offices across the US, Canada and Ireland, has become an icon of removal perfection by not chipping your table or tearing your sofa and by putting real, caring customer service at the top of the mission list - all at an affordable price. Having found a successful market in Ireland, the company is turning its attention to the UK, starting with the East and West Midlands - two areas identified for both home and business moving growth.

Master franchisee DMG Group of Dublin says the UK base has now been established in Birmingham, which will allow it to offer strategic support for franchisees investing in a business that has a proven track record of growth, sustainability and returns.

“There’s a real need for a respected and recognised brand in the UK removal industry, which will offer uniform excellence in moving services,” says managing director Mike Harrison. “This is an exciting time for entrepreneurs as the UK emerges from the recession in a strong growth position, supported by a coalition government that encourages new enterprises.”

“In the UK 2.5 million households move home every year,” continues Mike. “This equates to a £1.5 billion market - with the population set to grow 10 per cent annually.”
