Next year Betterware celebrates 85 years as one of the UK’s most successful and best loved home shopping brands. Offering a wide range of value for money, problem solving and contemporary houseware products, customers shop predominantly via catalogues that are distributed directly to the public by Betterware’s sales force team.

What is unique about Betterware is the free business opportunity it offers to men and women of all ages, backgrounds and experience. It was one of the first direct selling companies in the UK to provide women in particular with a way to earn while still running a home and bringing up a family, thus producing generations of independent businesswomen who improved their own and their family’s lifestyle.

Celebrating their choice

Fiona Brook from Basildon in Essex has enjoyed 20 years of business success with Betterware. She says: “I was a young mum with one child and the sole breadwinner for my family when I started my Betterware business. I had no idea at the time how it would develop and what a fantastic opportunity it really was.

“It was the flexibility that appealed at first. I could work it round whatever I needed to do at home. I was able to put my kids first, and as they grew and went to school so did the time I could spend growing my income and developing my business. I got all the training and support that I needed along the way.

“I take my business very seriously and I know my hard work pays off. I love my home, my holidays and buying nice things when I want them. I’m a grafter and I’m good with people - that’s the perfect combination for Betterware. I enjoy a fantastic lifestyle and I’d recommend it to anyone.”

Samantha Pimblott’s mum has run a Betterware business for 30 years, so it’s in her blood. From Glynneath in Wales, Samantha says: “It was such an easy choice for me. I love everything about it.

“I wanted to start a family young as well as be a businesswoman like my mum and I wanted to give my children the life I grew up with. I knew that Betterware could help me do both if I was prepared to work hard. I’ve run my own business for six years now and my husband Michael and I have two children, Cameron and Kayla.

“There are no bad things about having a Betterware business. You have an earning opportunity second to none, a fantastic career path if you want it and you’re given a business to run free of charge. I have the opportunity to be in total control of my income, great flexibility to work around my family, I meet different people from different backgrounds every day and I still feel supported and part of a team, which is one of the best. I just love it.”

Getting the balance right

Adri Human from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire joined Betterware a year ago after having worked in the corporate travel industry, managing VIPs and business accounts. “Don’t get me wrong, I loved my old job, I loved the buzz, but it was taking too much of my time,” says Adri. “I wanted to get my work and lifestyle balance right.

“Betterware was a new endeavour and, to tell the truth, I didn’t see the business potential at first. You certainly aren’t given a free business opportunity like this anywhere I’ve ever been before. I joined to lose a bit of weight and earn some money while doing it. When the opportunity to become an area coordinator presented itself, I took it and since then Betterware has very quickly integrated into every aspect of our lives.

“This is a big challenge for me, as I’m still in the process of growing my business, but my husband says I never do anything by half. I either go for something and aim for the top or I don’t do it at all. I think that’s the only way to approach this business. So far I’ve been enjoying a good deal of success - I’m up for every challenge and I’ll take every opportunity that presents itself. I’m enjoying it tremendously.” MM
